DAAD, The German Academic Exchange Service is the largest organization for academic collaboration in Germany. DAAD lists all universities and courses, collaboration options abroad and most importantly, it provides scholarships for students and researchers in Germany. These scholarships are fully funded and are also available for all international students applying for Master’s or  Ph.D from the best universities in Germany. Which courses are involved in a scholarship?

Masters or Ph.D. courses in Economic Sciences/Business Administration/Political Economics; Development Cooperation; Engineering and Related Sciences; Mathematics; Regional and Urban Planning; Agricultural and Forest Sciences; Natural and Environmental Sciences; Medicine and Public Health; Social Sciences, Education and Law; and Media Studies.

Scholarship period

Durations of scholarships depend on your individual courses. For masters it is one to two years and for Ph.D. it is three years. It is funded by German Academic Exchange Service or DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) and includes a monthly payment of approx. 850 euros for graduates or 1,200 euros for doctoral candidates. Apart from that, all the other payments like personal insurance, liability insurance, travel allowance are also covered if not covered by the source of funding or home country. 

For courses in the German language, there is a scholarship for the German language course for 6 months. 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have a bachelor degree, preferably 4 years in an appropriate subject.
  • Candidates should have scored far above the average result and ideally 2 years of related work experience after graduation. 
  • If working for a public authority, a private company in a developing country, or directly engaged in the planning and execution of projects which emphasis on policies development, or projects on technology, economy or social areas. 
  • The academic degree should normally be not older than 6 years max. 
  • For courses in German, you need to clear the language test before the start of the course. A minimum German language level of B1 is required at the time of the application
  • For courses in English, an English language certificate like IELTS (Band 6) certificate or TOEFL (minimum score: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, 80 internet-based) is needed. 

List of Documents Needed for DAAD Scholarship

  • DAAD Application Form.
  • Proof of Language: English- IELTS/TOEFL (only academic TOEFL is accepted)
  • German – only needed if the course is in German, but if, you have it then submit it
  • A hand-signed CV (Use the Europass specimen form: http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/)
  • A hand-signed letter of motivation (Maximum of 2 pages)
  • Letters of Recommendation (Academic/ Employer – must be on the official letterhead, must have a signature, official stamp, and of the recent date)
  • Employer confirmation letter from your home country or if possible, a guarantee of re-employment. 
  • Certified copies of Academic Degree and transcript (certified translation if necessary)

P.S. Always check the requirement list of the university, they might need additional documents or if certified copied are required or not. 

Deadlines
