A Schengen visa is applicable for almost all countries in EU with which you could move freely in those countries. It is a short stay visa to move freely in the Schengen area

The Schengen area has 26 countries namely,

Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Validity of Schengen visa

A Schengen visa is a short stay visa valid for 90 days in any 180 days period for business or tourism purposes. If you intend to study or work in EU, you might have to apply for a student visa or work visa and not Schengen visa.

Purpose of visit

Schengen visa can be applicable for the following purposes

  • Tourism
  • Visiting family and friends
  • Business meeting
  • Medical visits
  • Short term study or business
  • events , etc

The issued visa could be single entry, double or multiple entry depending ont he purpose of the visit.

How much does the Schengen visa cost?

The fee is 60€ for applying to get a Schengen visa, but it also depends on the nationality and other factors, for which one might have to pay slightly lower fee.

Important documents needed for Schengen visa application

Few of the documents needed are,

– Flight itinerary, which states that the duration of the visit

– Travel insurance covering the entire duration of the visit. There are specific requirements about minimal coverage of travel insurance (for example 30000€).

– Proof of accommodation for the visit period, which confirms that the applicant has sufficiently planned for the trip according to the purpose.
